Textual Analysis – The Seven
Five ( Netflix ) From 0.35 to 5.00.
Documentary.
( Jakub Wilczewski )
The documentary starts with diegetic narrated sound of a prosecutor and Michael Dowd on a blank screen followed by a edited in date. At 0.33 there is wide shot of the court which is the establishing shot (one of many) this is followed by a cut and close up shot of Dowd’s face as the oath is being administered in this sane their is also a lot of non diegetic ambient sound from the court as Dowd enters. In the sane there is also a slow shot reverse shot from the prosecutes to Dowd furthermore there is also a quick fade to the courtroom. In this opening sane there is a mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sound with a small camera angle that only shows a few people in shot at a time.
Establishing shot of NYC with a voiceover and low post synchronised
sound, there are multiple shot reverse shots and extreme low and high angle extreme
close ups to drug use and raids . This also includes archive footage
edited in narration and with a theme song in the background too. In these scenes there are also multiple cuts to inteuses and newsreels and images of East New York Brooklyn which could be called establishing shots for the rest of the documentary which also sets the scen for the whole documentary letting us know that this documentary is about the crack epidemic of the 80s and corruption in the 75 precinct.
Mise-en-scene: Nearly all the people are dressed formally in sites or shirts there are guns
used in in some of the archive footage and riot gear too inanition to this third
are drugs and jewelry and alcohol all cut in and 80s gang clothing. Police
uniforms fire uniforms .
